Favourite line:"We've become bored with watching actors give us phony emotions. We are tired of pyrotechnics and special effects. While the world he inhabits is, in some respects, counterfeit, there's nothing fake about Truman himself. No scripts, no cue cards. It isn't always Shakespeare, but it's genuine. It's a life."

Jim Carrey in straight man mode in this paranoid, reality TV pastiche.

Carrey plays Truman Burbank, a regular everyman, with a beautiful wife, a mediocre job, and no real dreams or aspirations. His one quirk is his fear of water, which renders him a prisoner in the small island community in which they live, as he can never pluck up the courage to cross the bridge to travel elsewhere.
Thing is, his entire life is a lie.
He is, unbeknownst to him, the star of a 24 hour a day reality TV show - The Truman Show - and everyone he knows is an actor.
His whole life is a work of fiction.

Played with poise and subtlety by Carrey, this is intelligent and thought provoking. The script is exceptional, as is the direction.
A superb, highly original movie, and far better than we have come to expect from Hollywood in recent years.
