Favourite line:"You got to pick up the line. God damn it! Get off the fucking field you limp ass blow jobs!"

Frodo Baggins takes on an alien menace in Robert Rodriguez's teen horror outing.

The plot:
A college in Anywheresville, USA, seems to be taking a turn for the strange.
Staff and students alike appear to be changing somehow, their behaviour becoming peculiar, secretive, alien.
A motley band of the unaffected, led by Elijah 'Aye, aye copper' Wood and Josh 'The Nostril' Hartnett set about finding out precisely what's going on.
And guess what?
It involves parasites.
Yikes!

Slick as a teenage boy’s shaft fifteen minutes into a Sapphic Erotica DVD, this just screams I'M FUCKING COOL at you, which is a bit testing, to be honest.
Frodo is perfectly cast as the loner photography student sort, all vulnerability and batted eyelids - I'd fuck him, anyway - and the group of renegades are efficient enough, if a little too perfect on the eye.
Starting off with some intrigue, this unfortunately descends into something of a special effects frenzy, and not a very good one, the CGI coming across as very, very shaky in places.
Perhaps the success of this could be blamed for the more recent slew of teen horror guff, but I can't hold that against it.
Silly, lightweight sci-fi horror fluff, that just about manages to pass ninety minutes, then. But don't go out of your way.
