This is just excellent.
The old Stuart Gordon, Jeffrey Combs and Brian Yuzna (producer) combination works again and wonderfully well.
Loosely based on a Lovecraft short story of the same name. The adaptation is apparently very faithful though, as I haven't actually read it, I cannot confirm that. Shamefully I am yet to read any Lovecaft - really should do something about that.

Anyhow, Combs plays an apprentice of your typical mad doctor, Dr Pretorius, who is indulging in experiments to stimulate the human pineal gland, thus enabling them to see other dimensions. Unfortunately, by doing so, he also allows the creatures that inhabit said dimensions to gain access to ours, and, inevitably, they aren't very friendly.

Some great special effects (slime is in abundance), and a decent script make this a superior slice of 80's horror.
Barbara Crampton (Megan in Reanimator) is back too, and this time she's wearing PVC bondage gear, which is certainly nothing to complain about.
Superb.
