Fulci's masterpiece, and a real milestone in the zombie genre.

The plot is straight forward enough:
An island in the Pacific - Matool - has been blighted by a disease. The local doctor is desperate and alone, struggling to enable both himself and his daughter to survive, and doing what he can for the locals, but more often than not this just means shooting the poor swines in the head to put them out of their misery. A group arrive on the island (can't remember their reason and, frankly, it's not important), and soon discover that the island is also inhabitated by zombies, the living dead remnants of the Spanish Conquistadors.

Stunning music, quite simply the finest zombie awakening sequence ever committed to film, and the infamous eye bursting scene - not to mention the swimming zombie attacking the shark(!) - make this the best zombie movie ever made.
Certainly only Romero's come close.
Just brilliant.
