Tagline: | A robot and a man . . . hold the world spellbound with new and startling powers from another planet! |
Favourite line: | "It is no concern of ours how you run your own planet, but if you threaten to extend your violence, this Earth of yours will be reduced to a burned-out cinder. Your choice is simple: join us and live in peace, or pursue your present course and face obliteration. We shall be waiting for your answer. The decision rests with you." |
Stunningly paranoid slice of sci-fi, from the heart of the Cold War.
An alien spacecraft lands in America, and a silver suited figure emerges.
The military types promptly shoot him!
Another figure emerges, and is clearly annoyed, but manages to control himself and asks to speak to all representatives of all the countries on earth.
Cue lots of in fighting between the countries, and the realisation that co-operation is futile.
The alien is eventually taken captive, but manages to escape, lives as a fugitive from the authorities, but takes it upon himself to instruct a little boy in the concepts of peace and co-operation.
Ultimately, this is the message of the movie: Work together in unity, or die in armed struggle.
Very much of its time, this is still an entertaining watch.
It is a little slow in parts, which is why it doesn't score higher, but this is still worth the effort ultimately.
