Favourite line:"Someday I think you and I are going to have a serious disagreement."

Michael Mann's mini-epic studies a lesser known period of American history, when the French were attempting to colonise, and the Native American's were less than impressed.
Simultaneoulsy, the British army were involved in skirmishes with both the French and certain Indian tribes, in a war they seemed destined to lose.
Beautifully shot, the plot follows a trio of earthy types (trappers, apparently, though I'm not sure what that means) as they assist a high ranking British soldier in transporting his daughters from the front line of the war to safety.

Not much else to say about the storyline, but this is much more about atmosphere and the sumptuous landscapes than anything else.
One criticism would be the action scenes, which are a little too 'Hollywood' for a movie that seems to be depicting a real period of time, but that's the only flaw I could find.
An impressive movie.
